Beginning Scrapbooking

This is from a class I once taught at a women’s retreat here at Zion

What is scrapbooking and why do we do it?
Scrapbooking is taking your photographs out of shoeboxes and putting them into albums where they can be protected and enjoyed. It is recording your life, your family, and your memories. It is also a creative and social activity that will simply make you feel good in countless ways.

Why Make Scrapbooks?

“Why Make Scrapbooks? In our busy lives, bombarded by the demands of today’s high-tech world, we have so little time for the things that really matter. Scrapbooking keeps us connected to what is important in life – family, friends, and the experiences we share with them. The simple act of pasting photographs and jotting down impressions in a book is a relaxing way to record history. By taking bits and pieces from our lives and putting them together in one place, we celebrate our existence and create something timeless in a world where there seems to be no time at all.”

Scrapbooking Your Faith

Does your scrapbook show your beliefs, values, and faith? If someone picks up your scrapbooks, they can probably see the importance of your family in your life, but can they see the importance of your faith?? Scrapbooking your faith, or Faithbooking, is sharing your faith through your scrapbooks.

Pam Miller

Pam (Pieschke) Miller is deployed with the Litchfield 849th Mobility Augmentation Company of the Minnesota Army National Guard.

“It is almost certain that I will be leaving Camp Shelby, MS on the 30th of August to end the training portion and begin my deployment. I will be in Kuwait for a couple of weeks and then be leaving to my station in Baghdad, Iraq for the remaining time. I will continue to let you know how things are going. So far, so good! As some already know me, I continue to keep a smile on my face and look at each day as a blessing. No matter what situation God may make you face, there is a reason for everything in life and He has a plan for me and this mission. Not sure what it is yet but I know it will be something good. “

Greetings from Zambia
I have been working on site planning and have also been organizing a volleyball team. It sounds like the team may be having their first scrimmage next week. A new group of people have arrived here from Wisconsin and will be helping with the project for about a week. Today I am heading to the new orphan cottages to help design a plan for landscaping the area which will also deal with water drainage. The weather is getting warmer here and I am enjoying spending time outside.

“Hello from Zambia. It is relatively hot here but mostly just dry. It almost seems like fall because leaves are falling off the trees and it gets very cool at night. But it is sunny and 70 degrees every day.

I have been working on a wide range of projects. I am helping complete an excel file that will chart all the time, workers, and costs, of each step in building an orphan cottage based on those cottages that are finished currently. Then Benedict will know specifically what he needs for each step when building future houses.

What is an interim pastor?

With Pastor John’s retirement, the Zion church council voted to hire an interim senior pastor until a new senior pastor is called. What is an “interim” pastor and how is that person’s role different than that of a “called” or “settled” pastor?

September 2007

So who likes change? Change brings strong emotions: anger, relief, fear, joy, a mixed bag of ups and downs. Change in church only intensifies these feelings because a house of worship is supposed to be a place of tranquil peace; an oasis of calm in the swirling sandstorm of life. While, truth be told, change in many areas of my life is OK, even welcome, change in the place where I know God is often not OK.

Sancturary Movement

Some months ago a young couple joined Redeemer congregation after doing extensive research. They decided to become members at Redeemer because they liked the congregation’s commitment and support to the neighborhood. They are both recent graduates of Valparaiso University in Indiana. It was like music to my ears when they stated that they wanted to get married at Redeemer this summer. That’s when they asked me the big question “What would it take to have the church painted and the mildew stains on the wall removed?” Read the rest of this entry »
