Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference?

Does It Make Any Difference?
Join Pastor Becky Wednesdays at 6:00 for an exploration of Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Philip Yancey.

The book study will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning January 2 from 6:00-7:00p.m. Please sign-up on line or at the information desk. Books and study guides will be available for $14.

In his most powerful book since What’s So Amazing about Grace? and The Jesus I Never Knew, Yancey probes the most fundamental, challenging, perplexing, and deeply rewarding aspect—the very heartbeat—of your relationship with God: prayer. In theory, prayer is the essential human act, a priceless point of contact between you and the God of the universe. In practice however, prayer is often frustrating, confusing, and fraught with mystery. Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? explores the mysterious intersection where you and God meet and relate. Writing as a fellow pilgrim, Yancey explores the questions surrounding prayer that you may wonder about but not know how to express. Above all, Yancey shows you how to pray to a God who sees what lies ahead of you, knows what lies within you, and who invites you into an eternal partnership with Him—through prayer.

Update 12/31: The study will be for the 5 weeks of January

Try Something New

When the new year starts, consider volunteering in Sunday school! We have a few teachers who are pregnant and will be needing to leave our 1st through 4th grade teaching staff very soon. They are really enjoying their positions, and would love to show you the joy of teaching the rotation. With the rotational schedule, teachers can chose to work with activities that fit their interests. Consider a four-week position to see how you like it.

“Shepherds” and substitute shepherds are always needed to just spend time with a small group of children without worrying about what to teach or having to plan a lesson!

Contact Roxie or Holly in the church office for more information. There is also more information about the Sunday School program at http://zionkids.wordpress.com.

Know some one who could use a meal from a friend?

Food For Friends is a ministry to help ease the burden of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who are going through a particularly difficult time in their life. If you know of someone who could use a meal, please stop in to get a meal from the church freezer, or call the church and tell them of the need and we’ll arrange a meal to be delivered to them.

If you are interested in using your gifts to serve in the Food for Friends ministry (making freezer meal, making/delivering a warm meal, donating food or money), please call the church or Julie Kabe.

Family Potluck & Game Day

Sunday, January 6 at 11:30am
Bring a potluck lunch dish to share, your favorite board games and your family and friends, and join other Zion friends for a Family Game Day.
Potluck lunch will start immediately following the 10:30 worship service, followed by an afternoon of family fun. It’s a terrific way to spend a cold winter afternoon and meet new families and friends at Zion. The movie room and /or gym could also be available for activities if we have a volunteer to supervise.

Zion New Members Class Wednesday, January 23, 5-8pm

New Members are officially received during Sunday morning worship services. Just prior to joining, prospective members and their families are invited to attend a one time informational class led by Zion’s pastors.

During the membership class at Zion, you will:

  • start with a delicious meal together
  • have an opportunity to meet some Zion staff members and other incoming new members, and get to know the pastors
  • have a brief introduction into church life at Zion, Christian teachings, pastoral care, and God’s gracious love
  • Your picture will be taken for the following Sunday’s church bulletin and staff will gather or check information about you and your family for our records and bulletin. If you would like to provide that information prior to the meeting you can do that online.

Please sign up on the church website
so we know how many to prepare for. Call the church office with any questions: 763.682.1245. Child care will be available , but we ask that your children join you for the evening meal from 5:00-5:30.
Come and grow with us!
