Pastor Steve’s balance of salary and housing allowance for 2008 was adjusted.
The Finance Committee reported that 2007 ended on a strong note, thanks to solid December giving and the intra-fund loan between FIF2 and General Fund was cleared.
A motion from the Finance Committee that a special thank you gift be given to Pastor Becky in recognition of facilitating the changes in the finance staffing just prior to year end was approved
Problems with advance communication of supporting materials for the 2007 annual meeting we discussed. Council’s executive committee will layout a time line this fall to work backward from the meeting date to insure that all materials are mailed at least 10 days prior. The congregation will be reminded that any motions to be brought forth that day be written so they may be accurately reflected in the minutes and debated.
A Letter was received from Rod and Lesley Walz regarding the issue raised at the annual meeting by Warren Krause of the ordination of openly gay clergy and/or the blessing of such unions. The council reaffirmed the commitment made at the annual meeting to create forums to engage the congregation in the debate on these issues this year and requested that these topics also be addressed from the pulpit to aid in our understanding of these issues from a biblical perspective. After the updated study and position paper on Human Sexuality is released by the ELCA in March of this year, the adult Ed committee with guidance of Council/Executive committee is expected to create forums to discuss and debate the issues at hand.
