I Love The Season Of Advent

I Love The Season Of Advent. It’s a wonderful time to celebrate the past, present and future reign of God. We listen to the voice of the prophets telling of the coming of the Messiah. And, we look forward with great anticipation of life as it will be in the fullness of time.

Help Feed The Hungry

Buffalo Food Shelf Project

The Social Ministry Committee is organizing a group to put together 250 Christmas dessert kits which would be part of a holiday food distribution by the Buffalo Food Shelf. For those of you with families, this is a great opportunity to involve your kids.

The group will be collecting the items necessary for the kits and then assembling them at the church and transporting to the food shelf. We need your help to bring and place into the carts in the church any of the following items next week which will used to make up the kits:

  • 20 oz cans of crushed pineapple
  • 21 oz cans of cherry pie filling
  • Box of yellow cake mix
  • Cash contributions are also accepted!

Please let Roger or Sandy Brenny know if you are interested in helping with this great opportunity to help feed the hungry in our community this holiday season.

Thank you for helping to FEED THE HUNGRY in our community this holiday season!

Make a Joyful Noise!

The Zion handbell choirs wish to thank the Zion Foundation for a grant of funds to refurbish our five octave set of handbells. This is a “20,000 mile check up” for handbells: taking the entire set of bells to the “bell mechanic” to be dismantled, cleaned, springs replaced/repairs done where necessary, polished and revoiced so that there is a consistent sound from treble to bass bells. The process will be completed in a week of time so that the bells are returned to us by February 3.

With appreciation from Ring Forth, Class Ring, Jubilance, Joyful Ringers and directors Jana Thorson and Sherilyn Burgdorf

Job Well Done

The Harvest of Hands Committee, the World Hunger appeal, and the hungry would like to thank you for your contribution of supplies, time, and money to make the harvest of Hands Bazaar a success this year. Your generosity is enabling us to donate to the Buffalo Food Shelf ($3,000), ELCA Food Crisis ($3,500), and Darfur ($3,500) to help people in need nearby and around the world.

The Harvest of Hand Committee would like to personally -thank you‖, but that is not possible. So, as you read this, please hear our voice: -”Thank you for your contribution to such a worthy cause. It is greatly appreciated.”

The event is over . . . Is it really over though? The Harvest of Hands Committee is always looking for projects and volunteers for the next event. Please consider coming to one of our sessions. You will find, as we have found, that it is very rewarding and satisfying. The friendships, the satisfaction of a good job done and contribution to a needy and worthwhile cause say it all.

We need you. Many talents are needed to put on an event. Please think now how you can help us to be a success again next year.

Interim Update

I will be giving periodic updates in this newsletter on the progress of the interim time. I started on October 6th as your interim senior pastor. A key step has already been finished, that of preparing the congregation profile. The Call Committee has now begun their work.

In January and February, we will participate in a Bridgebuilder process to address some lingering issues at Zion. In early spring the Call Committee could be interviewing candidates. Easter is April 12th this year. Most candidates will not consider leaving their current church until after Easter. And after Zion issues a call, the candidate has a month to consider and then another month of notice to his/her current congregation. So, the earliest the next senior pastor could begin at Zion most likely is early summer.

Although this interim time seems long, Zion’s experience is quite common and normal. The Lord works in the Lord’s own time-and the Lord continues to bless Zion.
