Bravo to Michael Walsh and BHS Musicians

Michael Walsh

Michael Walsh

Zion congratulates Michael Walsh, Zion Senior Choir director, who has been named Minnesota Music Educator of the Year for 2010-2011. This award is a very prestigious award given by the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA). Walsh will receive his award at the MMEA mid-winter clinic on February 18. Zion is very fortunate to have Mike’s talents shared here at Zion with the Zion Senior Choir. Walsh gives recognition to his BHS colleagues in his MMEA bio, including retired band director Lee Kjesbo, also a Zion member. In 2006 Lee Kjesbo received the Educator of the Year award, giving us a reminder of how fortunate we are to have highly recognized musicians involved in our Zion community.

Coincidentally, the Concert Band and Concert Choir from BHS, both including many students from Zion, have been chosen to perform at the MMEA event on Thursday, February 17. Although not connected to Walsh’s award, this will be a great highlight for the BHS music department.

Mike Walsh is in his twenty-sixth year of teaching at Buffalo High School and is involved in many musical groups in the community including Buffalo Community Theater, Buffalo Community Orchestra, and Wright County Chamber Chorus.

Watch for details about a Palm Sunday concert here at Zion presenting “The Messiah” by Handel performed by Zion’s Senior Choir and the Wright County Chamber Chorus.
