Why Sponsors?

• Youth and families that are attending who are not able to pay fully or consistently for their meals.
• Financial realities that make coming to a dinner like these helpful in weekly family nutrition.
• The quality of the meals needs to be maintained.
• We don’t want to limit the number of people served.

Individual Sponsors: Each sponsor would be asked to donate $100 to help defray the Wednesday meal costs. The suggested donation of $3 per meal would continue each Wednesday but families and individuals who come to the Wednesday night suppers are welcomed even if they are unable to pay a full amount.

Corporate Sponsors: Does your employer encourage corporate sponsorships? Corporate sponsors would be asked to donate $100-200 in order to support families and individuals who come to the Wednesday night suppers but are unable to pay a full amount. Corporate sponsor might choose instead to donate a specific part of a meal, such as dessert.

Both corporate and individual sponsors will have the option to have their names publicized.

BBQ sandwiches and root beer floats will be served. Free-will donations to cover the cost will be accepted.

Worship service at 6:15

The worship service led by youth director Myron Crawford will include some Gospel music, and will last about a half-hour.

Adult Education Program at 7pm:How Christians Worship:

Christians worship with a wide variety of styles. Have you ever heard of snake handlers in worship? Have you ever wondered where the phrase “holy rollers” comes from? Do you know who the “liturgical police” are? All of these things have something to do with Christian worship. Pastor Ted will lead an adult education session on “Make A joyful Noise – How Christians Worship.” We will look at historical, generational, and ethnic trends in Christian worship and have an opportunity to reflect on our own preferences for worship.

Senior High Graceland at 7pm – Music: What Are You Listening To?

Gather with other students entering grades 9-12 to discuss the power of our choices, even in music.

Family Activity at 7pm

S’mores and camp songs led by Roxie down by the lake for young children and children at heart.

Harvest of Hands at 7pm

The HOH craft group will work on a bead project.

You can offer a few hours of time and make a big impact on families here at Zion. Wednesday night supper teams are welcoming new team members.

Can you help?

Families or individuals cook (it really is lightweight prep), serve, and clean up meals once every 6 weeks. Meals are served in a 6 week rotation giving each team the benefit of cooking the same meal each time they serve. You can choose which meal team you‟d like to join. Each team will be serving only 5 times during the entire year. Volunteer a few hours as a small commitment with a great reward for many people.

If you are willing to give time to help with this great outreach to Zion families and community members please contact Sherilyn Burgdorf in the church office, Cindy Bonde or Dorothy Valentine.

You‟ll benefit by meeting other Zion members that will become new friends and you‟ll also help many families and youth by providing a great “home-cooked” meal on busy Wednesday evenings.

First what is your guess

The answer is 4,500 or an average of 155 each Wednesday night.  This is a 36% increase from Wednesday night suppers in the 2007-2008 year!

It is obvious each Wednesday evening how important these meals are, not just for the youth here for music programs and confirmation classes, but also to their parents and other members of the Zion community, who come together for food and fellowship.  That’s the really good news.

The average cost of a meal this year was $340.  That’s the bad news as weekly offerings averaged only $240.  During the summer, the leaders of the cooking ministry will be thinking of ways to help offset the difference and still provide great (and fun) meals for all attending!   Look for more information in the August newsletter. Wednesday night meals are a great ministry and we want to thank again all the various meal crews!
