Zionaires Flip-Flop

We had scheduled a fishing trip on Lake Pulaski for July, but the boat will be sailing without us! We are rescheduling that one for Tuesday, Sept 1.

So for the month of July, our activity will be to go to the Minnesota History Center in St Paul and see the Minnesota’s Greatest Generation: The Depression, The War, The Boom exhibit on Tuesday, July 21. We will leave from the church at 9:30 and return you home about 3:00. When we arrive at the History Center, we will be greeted by a staff member to give us an overview of the building and exhibit. You will have free time to view the exhibit until about 11:30 when we break for lunch and then attend a short play at 12:30 that explores 1930’s popular culture and daily life amidst the turmoil of the Great Depression. The cost of transportation, the exhibit, and the play will be $20 (not including lunch).

This should be a trip that is fun and brings back many memories for you. Please sign up at the information desk in the church, or the church office, or call Idella (295.2732), or the Brenny’s (682.2979) to reserve your spot.

Sturges Park Butterfly Garden

Adult butterflies pollinate many different plants, benefiting not only our native plants, but farm crops as well; butterflies can also serve as a food source for different species of birds, and areas that attract butterflies also provide food and shelter for other beneficial insects, birds and mammals – a butterfly garden truly is an wonderful addition to any area!

The Buffalo Community Center is planting a butterfly garden and everyone is invited to pitch in. They will need help with planting and maintaining this beautiful project so if you have a green thumb (or even if you don’t!) and want to be part of something amazing, please get involved!

  • When: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Where: Sturges Park (by the playground).
  • Who: Everyone in the community!
  • Call (763) 682-6036 for details, and to sign up!

Funding for this project was made possible by a grant from the United Way!

Seniors: Have you Received your Tax Rebate?

Many senior citizens have not filed tax returns for a number of years because their income is low, but in order to get the stimulus payment, you must file a 2007 tax return.  Seniors still won’t owe any income taxes (if they didn’t before), but the filing is what gets their name in the IRS rebate system.  The deadline to accomplish this is October 15, 2008.

If you are a senior (or know a senior) who has not received their stimulus payment, make sure that you (or they) have completed a 2007 tax return!

Have you ever toured Buffalo Lake?

Join the Zionaires Seniors Group on Monday, June 30th Zionaires to board a pontoon boat and see Buffalo from the lake.  The first group of ten will board the pontoon at the dock near the Sturges Park Pavilion at 10am, and a second group will leave a bit later.

Lunch will be at Zion at noon for both those who took a tour, and those who would just like lunch with friends.

Please sign up at the information desk by June 27.  If the weather is not suitable for boating, ‘plan B’ is to meet at Zion at 10am.
