Got Photos? Videos? And a Video Contest!

The office frequently needs photos for publications and you can help.

Consider taking more photos at church, even when it is not a special event.

When you do get great photos, please share some of them:

Photos are the greatest need, but also consider sharing any Zion videos too via YouTube (send the office a link) or Facebook.

By the way, the ELCA is inviting members and the general public to submit their videos to a contest inspired by our tagline: “God’s work. Our hands.” Prizes include a $5,000 ministry grant for  congregations or a $2,500 cash prize for individuals.

Building a Well in Nigeria

Last night at Nigeria Night, children representing the Sunday School presented Kris Perry, Diaconal Minister with the Minneapolis Area Synod, with a check for the $1,350 they raised during Lent for a new well in Nigeria. When Kris Perry asked how they raised the money, one boy said” we gave way all our change.” They also passed around empty paint buckets for a “Noisy Offering” at all three worship services on of the Sundays of Lent.

Zion is looking seriously at beginning at partnership with a congregation of the Lutheran church of Christ in Nigeria. More educational opportunities and service projects for the LCCN are being planned for this year’s Vacation Bible School in June.

Marysville Restoration

Brickwork at the Marysville church had been in need of attention for some time, and part of the veneer on the back of the building collapsed in May.

Thank you to Doug and Dave Schmidt of F.H. Schmidt Inc. and Ward Carlson for their generous donations of time and materials to prepare the back wall for the brick work and repair that was needed.

Repair expenses were covered by designated gifts to the Marysville Preservation Fund.

Church Directory Time

Lifetouch Directory Portrait Sign-UpThis year we will be working with Lifetouch, as we did in 2003, to take pictures of our church family during summer and fall photography sessions and produce a new pictorial directory, which is the family album of our faith community. This is a great opportunity for a family or individual portrait: professional photographers, close to home, inclusion in our church history, and no sitting fees.

Redeemer Trip Report and Photos

The trip to Redeemer was a great experience for all involved! More than 80 Zion members traveled to Redeemer Lutheran, on April 20, to enjoy worship with our sister congregation. The children enjoyed a half hour Sunday school session with Redeemers youth. The topic discussed was the Heroes of the Bible, and the kids had a great time remembering the many important stories of the Bible that they had learned in each seperate Sunday school environment.

The worship time began at 10:30, and all members of the congregation, including the children, joined together in the sanctuary for worship and prayer. Pastor Kelly was an amazingly gracious host, and made all those visiting, from Zion and other places feel right at home. After the meaningful worship service, with glorious music ended, everyone gathered in the fellowship hall for a light lunch and great conversation. Redeemer was a gracious host. We look forward to continue building the community between the two congregations! To God be the glory!

Photos from the day are posted on Photobucket

Down By The Creek Bank

Joy Choir CreekbankZion’s Joy Choir presented their annual special music program during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services on April 13. Most of the children had speaking parts or solos, and all of them did a great job. Thanks to director Kristi Wagner and accompanist Jackie Kuhns for a wonderful year.

Pictured is Jordan Sigurdson, with part of the choir in the background. More pictures are posted on the church website. More photos from Down by the Creekbank are posted at http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c319/ZionBuffalo/2008/Joy%20Choir%20Musical/
