Take time for a few weeks of ushering. Ushers at the 10:30 worship are especially needed.
Ushers come about 20-30 minutes before worship begins to hand out bulletins, help with the offering plates during offering, and direct people to communion on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays. Ushers can be adults and youth, men and women. After worship the ushers take a quick check through the pews to collect the extra bulletins and then their job is done for the day.
Volunteers are usually asked to help for a month, knowing that there may be a Sunday that would be a “vacation” day due to other plans.
Please consider helping especially during November, December, or January with this Sunday morning task. It’s a very important one! Contact Sherilyn Burgdorf at sburgdorf@ZionBuffalo.org or call 682.1245 ext. 307.
Sign up sheets to help to volunteer time or to donate food items for Harvest of Hands will be in the Narthex every Sunday in October, or sign up here. Someone from the Harvest of Hands committee will be available between services to answer any questions.
Would you consider contributing to World Hunger by donating an item to the Harvest of Hands Silent Auction? The most popular silent auction items are one-of-a-kind handmade items valued at $25 or more. If you have an item to donate to the Silent Auction please contact Joy Arens or sign up here.
During the week of November 3rd through November 6th, work will begin on setting up at Zion for the Harvest of Hands. Some good strong labor will be needed to help move tables and furniture and to set up the rooms for this big event. We also need help with clean up after the event. Any helpers available on November 8th from noon till 3pm to take down tables and displays and clean up would be greatly appreciated. Sign up here.
All proceeds from the Harvest of Hands goes to the World Hunger Appeal. With the money raised, the Lutheran World Federation provides food, water, emergency shelter, quilts and health kits to people in need around the world.
First Sunday is currently in need of a drummer. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 6pm, and the group provides music for the 10:30 worship service on the first Sunday of each month. If you are interested, please contact Pam Freer or the church office.
Drivers are still needed for Saturday and Sunday, contact Sherilyn ASAP if you can help
Zion needs to provide housing for students from the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir after their concert at Zion on June 24.
Hosts need to house at least two students together and students will depart the following morning around 9am. Some students have pet/smoke allergies, so let us know if your home would be suitable for those students.
Contact Sherilyn to volunteer.
Also contact Sherilyn if you can help provide supper for the choir before the concert, or would like to help sponsor the concert.
JSP? CSS? Ubuntu? . . .If that means anything to you, you might be able to help with one of several small computer projects in the church office:
Please contact Angela if you can help.
A few God’s Garndener garden spaces are left for new volunteers. Please contact the church office for information if you are interested in tending a small garden space at Zion for the summer.
If you would be willing to occasionally proofread church publications before printing, please contact Angela.
The timeframe is often short or overnight and the materials would be sent to you as a link to a PDF without the expectation that it would fit your schedule every time.
The office frequently needs photos for publications and you can help.
Consider taking more photos at church, even when it is not a special event.
When you do get great photos, please share some of them:
Photos are the greatest need, but also consider sharing any Zion videos too via YouTube (send the office a link) or Facebook.
By the way, the ELCA is inviting members and the general public to submit their videos to a contest inspired by our tagline: “God’s work. Our hands.” Prizes include a $5,000 ministry grant for congregations or a $2,500 cash prize for individuals.
Use your talents this summer to provide special music for one of our summer worship services on Sunday mornings. Instrumentalists, pianists, vocalists, groups or solos… you are invited!
Interested in Monday nights at Marysville? There’s a special music spot for you there too!
Contact Sherilyn Burgdorf or Mike Walsh to volunteer.

Library Cataloging Party
Today 11 volunteers worked at getting much of Zion’s library cataloged and online. You can now browse over 1,500 of the library’s books at librarything.com from home or work as well as in the library on the computer provided and set up by the Zion Foundation.
Thanks to Donna, Beth, Cheryl, Amy, Charlene, Anita, Scott, Roxie, Chris, Mindy & Maurean; to our younger helpers: Kasenia, Meghan, Brynn, McKenna & Hanna; and to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans & the Zion Foundation.
A group of volunteers will be getting together to work on compiling a catalog of Zion’s library books on Saturday morning. Additional volunteers are welcome.
* Come to Zion on Saturday, March 7 at 9am (or later if need be).
* If you have a laptop with wireless, please bring it with you, but don’t worry if you do not have one.
* We will plan to work until at least noon and then break for lunch (provided).
God’s Gardeners:
All the garden areas looked great in 2008, and many visitors and members of Zion enjoyed the colorful greeting.
Gardeners, it‟s time to start thinking about planting your garden spaces for this year, keep an eye open for upcoming information for 2009 season.
If you have a new interest in God’s Gardeners please call the office for contact information.
Did you know that each first Sunday of the month Zion members visit those who are homebound to bring communion after worship? These visits serve as a way to “carry the worship service” out of Zion‟s doors and into the homes of some of our members who cannot get to church on Sunday mornings. We thank those who have served or continue to serve each month as visitors: Cindy Bonde, Howard Burgdorf, Jill Hanson, Carol Krause, Sam Monson, Carol Nusbaum, Kathy Swanson.
A training session for all who are interested in becoming homebound communion visitors will be held in April. Interested? Call the church office or contact Pastor Judy or Sherilyn Burgdorf.
Even though you are a distance away from the sanctuary during worship you are providing important leadership by caring for young children and infants. Parenting can be stressful and when parents of young children come to worship they may not be able to concentrate on parenting and worshipping at the same time.
Your hands become the hands of Christ as you care for the children while parents are away.

You are one of the first people that members and visitors see when they come to Zion. You welcome people who consider Zion their home church and also those who are visiting or considering Zion as a new “home”. You see to their needs. If people are unfamiliar with the building you are the ones who will direct them to the nursery, bathrooms, water fountains and other needs during the time they’re at Zion. Go out of your way to greet and meet people. Even when you are not on duty as a greeter we encourage you to take time to learn the names of those you meet at Zion, taking an interest in the community at Zion.
