Worship Volunteers

It takes all of us to make things run smoothly for the extra worship services at this time of year. Please contact Sherilyn if you would like to serve as an usher, greeter, nursery worker, communion server, altar guild member, coffee fellowship host or Family Express host.

A Note from Holly and Roxie

We want to thank all of the volunteers who help with the Children’s Ministries. We could never take 60 kids tubing (not safely anyway), nor could we teach approximately 460 Sunday School children or 350 Vacation Bible School children to love and serve the Lord without every one of you. You who are willing to volunteer your time. We lead busy lives and time is such a precious commodity. We (along with the kids whose hearts you touch) want you to know that your kindness does not go unnoticed. We want to thank you so much for giving of your time.

Wanna Hang Out With Us?

Volunteers must be high school or adult. Please contact Roxie if you might be interested in helping either one time or on a regular basis.

Freezer Cooking January 16

Food For Friends will be doing freezer cooking on Saturday, January 16, from 9—noon. Join them for a fun time of cooking and fellowship. Please contact Julie Kabe or the church office if you can help.

Christmas Volunteer Needs

Ushers are still needed for the 10am Christmas Day service. Contact Sherilyn to volunteer.

Quilt Group

The Monday Morning quilters have been busy! From July to November they completed forty-two quilts which have now been sent to Mexico. Roger Ose, a retired missionary picked up the many bags of quilts in late November to send on to places where he knows of a need.

You can contribute to this ministry by joining the quilting group at Zion any Monday morning, or donating sheets to be used for quilt backs. Sheets can be twin-sized or larger, and new or gently used.

It is only possible to touch the lives of so many children because you are here. From hall hosts, teachers, shepherds, project prep helpers, and substitutes, to snack helpers, bus helpers, chaperones, and music leaders, you are a blessing to the children of Zion. Thank you for giving of yourself and of your time.

  • Thanks to those that helped assemble stewardship mailings and the annual meeting mailing. We could not have done it without you.

God’s Gardeners

Thanks to our Volunteer Gardeners for this past season of beautiful Garden plantings at Zion.

If you are interested in a garden space, please contact the Church office for details.

Consider Ushering at Zion

Take time for a few weeks of ushering. Ushers at the 10:30 worship are especially needed.

Ushers come about 20-30 minutes before worship begins to hand out bulletins, help with the offering plates during offering, and direct people to communion on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays. Ushers can be adults and youth, men and women. After worship the ushers take a quick check through the pews to collect the extra bulletins and then their job is done for the day.

Volunteers are usually asked to help for a month, knowing that there may be a Sunday that would be a “vacation” day due to other plans.

Please consider helping especially during November, December, or January with this Sunday morning task. It’s a very important one! Contact Sherilyn Burgdorf at sburgdorf@ZionBuffalo.org or call 682.1245 ext. 307.

Harvest of Hands Update

Sign up sheets to help to volunteer time or to donate food items for Harvest of Hands will be in the Narthex every Sunday in October, or sign up here. Someone from the Harvest of Hands committee will be available between services to answer any questions.

Would you consider contributing to World Hunger by donating an item to the Harvest of Hands Silent Auction? The most popular silent auction items are one-of-a-kind handmade items valued at $25 or more. If you have an item to donate to the Silent Auction please contact Joy Arens or sign up here.

During the week of November 3rd through November 6th, work will begin on setting up at Zion for the Harvest of Hands. Some good strong labor will be needed to help move tables and furniture and to set up the rooms for this big event. We also need help with clean up after the event. Any helpers available on November 8th from noon till 3pm to take down tables and displays and clean up would be greatly appreciated. Sign up here.

All proceeds from the Harvest of Hands goes to the World Hunger Appeal. With the money raised, the Lutheran World Federation provides food, water, emergency shelter, quilts and health kits to people in need around the world.

A Volunteer’s Prayer

I thank Thee, Lord as a volunteer
For the chance to serve another year.
And to give of myself in some small way,
To those not blessed as I each day.
My thanks for health and mind and soul,
To aid me ever toward my goal.
For eyes to see the good in all,
A hand to extend before a fall.
For legs to go where the need is great,
Learning to love—forgetting to hate.
For ears to hear and heart to care,
When someone’s cross is hard to bear.
A smile to show my affection true,
With energy aplenty—the task to do.
And all I ask, dear Lord, if I may,
Is to serve you better day by day.
