Zion needs to provide housing for students from the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir after their concert at Zion on June 24.
Hosts need to house at least two students together and students will depart the following morning around 9am. Some students have pet/smoke allergies, so let us know if your home would be suitable for those students.
Contact Sherilyn to volunteer.
Also contact Sherilyn if you can help provide supper for the choir before the concert, or would like to help sponsor the concert.
Use your talents this summer to provide special music for one of our summer worship services on Sunday mornings. Instrumentalists, pianists, vocalists, groups or solos… you are invited!
Interested in Monday nights at Marysville? There’s a special music spot for you there too!
Contact Sherilyn Burgdorf or Mike Walsh to volunteer.
The wRight Ringers Community Handbells and the Wright County Chamber Chorus will be performing a concert at Zion on Sunday, April 19 at 7:30pm.
The Wright County Chamber Chorus is directed by Mike Walsh (you may know him better as the director of Zion’s Senior Choir), and the wRight Ringers are directed by Jill Starr and Sherilyn Burgdorf.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and are available with a $1 advance purchase discount at Gartner’s Hallmark downtown.

Sherilyn Burgdorf
Not many can say that they have had a piece of music commissioned in their honor! Last fall, Sherilyn Burgdorf received just such a gift from her husband.
Jerusalem, My Happy Home was “Comissioned by Andrew Burdgorf in honor of his wife Sherilyn’s fiftieth birthday and the Handbell Choirs of Zion Lutheran Church and the wRight Ringers Community Handbell Ensemble, Buffalo, Minnesota, Sherilyn Burgdorf, Director” and arranged by Cathy Moklebust.
Andy, along with Sherilyn’s friend Jill Starr, went to great lengths to keep the commissioning of this piece a secret until the big day. One day Andy was on his way to Jill’s home on his bike to pick up one of the drafts when he met Sherilyn on the road . . . So instead of turning onto Jill’s street he kept going and did a loop around the block to avoid suspicion.

Musical friends, family members…people who say “I’ve always wanted to try playing bells…” are all invited to join the Family Ring bell choir. The music is manageable to any music reader (Grade 4-adult). If needed, your notes can be circled to make music reading easier. Parents and children are welcome to come together but having another family member in the group is not a necessity.
This group is NOT limited to people already in a bell choir, but all bell folks are welcome!
The National Lutheran Choir, conducted by David Cherwien, is performing J. S. Bach’s monumental Saint Matthew Passion on March 21st, 7:00 pm, at St. Olaf Catholic Church. (215 S. 8th St., Downtown Minneapolis. Free parking is available at the Energy Center Ramp [3rd and 9th Street ]).
This highly dramatic telling of the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus Christ according to St. Matthew involves a huge cast. The National Lutheran Choir divides to form two choirs, Ensemble Sebastian (a baroque chamber orchestra) divides to form two chamber orchestras. Also participating is the Minnesota Boychoir, Christopher Cock singing the role of Evangelist, Dashon Burton the role of Jesus. They are joined by soloists Susan Palo Cherwien, Susan Druck, Oliver Mercer, and Aaron Larson.
Tickets are available at www.nlca.com, or by calling 612-722-2301.
Young musicians who are interested in providing special music at any of the services on December 28 should contact Sherilyn in the office for details.
The Zion handbell choirs wish to thank the Zion Foundation for a grant of funds to refurbish our five octave set of handbells. This is a “20,000 mile check up” for handbells: taking the entire set of bells to the “bell mechanic” to be dismantled, cleaned, springs replaced/repairs done where necessary, polished and revoiced so that there is a consistent sound from treble to bass bells. The process will be completed in a week of time so that the bells are returned to us by February 3.
With appreciation from Ring Forth, Class Ring, Jubilance, Joyful Ringers and directors Jana Thorson and Sherilyn Burgdorf
The First Sunday Worship Team is looking for more members. We lead worship at the 10:30 service on the first Sunday of each month. We rehearse Monday nights in the sanctuary here at Zion from 7 – 8 PM. We are worship leaders whose main goal is to encourage the congregation to join in our songs, to sing our praise and worship songs along with us. All skill levels and all ages are welcome.
These are songs that you hear on KTIS 98.5. We try to choose songs that are singable and repeat them often so the congregation can learn them. If you like to sing or can play an instrument give our fun group a try. All we ask is that you try your best to attend rehearsals and try your best to be a team player. Contact Sherilyn Burgdorf 682-1245 or Pam Freer 682-1320 for more information.

Joyful noises happen each week at Zion as musicians meet to rehearse and serve as music leaders each Sunday and Wednesday. We are thankful to have over 10 musical groups that rehearse weekly to provide a large variety of music for our worship services. There are numerous people who give of their time and instrumental talents to be hymn/song leaders at worship, Wednesday night confirmation, weddings, funerals, and special church events.
Take time this fall to give thanks for the many music ministers. Meet them before or after worship and give a well-deserved thank you for their year’s commitment. They will all be seen, heard, and recognized this fall at Sunday morning worship services. If you’d like to add your voice or instrumental talents to the groups you are welcomed warmly! See the website for details.
Look for our musicians on the following Sundays. Read the rest of this entry »

This been a very popular and well attended worship experience at Zion.

In the summer issue of the Thrivent Magazine, there is a wonderful article from Gracia Grindal. Gracia is a professor of rhetoric at Luther seminary. In this article, she reveals the events that inspired the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”.
Last week Zion’s pipe organ received some TLC to get it back in shape. . .The reed pipes had been falling over by their own weight, one of the pipes was almost ruined.
The pipes were removed, repaired and straightened. Then they were reattached to the rack and tied into place with nylon ropes to prevent them from shifting again. The work was done by Michael G. Christian from Roscoe, MN, who tunes this organ on a regular basis.
Make this a great year by adding your tunes to a choir. Get more information and sign up for all Choirs on the web site (www.zionbuffalo.org) or call the Zion church office (682.1245) to register for children/youth choirs, both vocal and handbells.
Parents, there’s room for you, too. Find a place in the Senior Choir or in Joyful Ringers. All are welcome! Child care available on Wednesdays during rehearsals.
Call any of the directors with questions about choirs. We’ll see you soon!

Zion’s Joy Choir presented their annual special music program during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services on April 13. Most of the children had speaking parts or solos, and all of them did a great job. Thanks to director Kristi Wagner and accompanist Jackie Kuhns for a wonderful year.
