Community Meals

In the summer of 2010, recognizing the increased need to help feed people in our community, Eric Nagel, director of the Buffalo Community Center proposed the idea of providing a monthly free meal.  Sandy and Roger Brenny from Zion’s Social Ministry Team formed a team with Eric and laid out plans to involve local churches and civic groups to put on a free monthly breakfast with the goal to help reduce local hunger.

Zion provided the first free breakfast last September and other groups followed on the 3rd Saturday of each month over the last year, serving over 2000 residents.  It is Zion’s turn again to serve a community meal. Volunteers are needed on  Saturday, September 17, from 7-11am. Sign up at the information desk.

In the second year of this program, a quarterly free evening meal at the Community Center is also planned.

Share Your Gifts

There are many opportunities for you to be a part of the vital programs for children at Zion. If you have a talent you would like to share but you aren’t sure it fits into the Children’s Ministry category, talk to Holly or Roxie, who would love to visit with you about how you might be a part of this active ministry or other opportunities that you might enjoy at Zion.

Thank you so much to those of you who have already agreed to share your time and talents with Zion’s Sunday School children this fall. We are excited for the opportunity to work with you in teaching all of our kids about our loving and eternal God.

Choirs Start in September

Make this a great year by adding your tunes to a choir. Vocal and handbell choirs are available for all ages and will be starting again in September.

Wednesday is choir day at Zion with bussing provided for Ring Forth, SONshine Choir, and Joy Choir after school for elementary students from Parkside, Discovery, Tatanka, Northwinds, and St. Francis schools. Middle school handbell ringers come by carpool from BCMS after school, and Youth Choir meets right before Wednesday night confirmation classes.

Vocal Choirs:

  • Sonshine Choir (K-grade 2)
  • Joy Choir (grade3-5)
  • Youth Choir (grade 6-12)
  • Senior Choir (high school – adult)

Handbell Choirs

  • Ring Forth (grade 4-5)
  • Class Ring (grade 6-8)
  • Joyful Ringers (high school – adult)

Parents, did you notice there’s room for you, too? All are welcome! Child care is available on Wednesday evenings during rehearsals.

Adult choirs will begin in early September, and most children/youth choirs will begin the week of September 12.

Remember that Wednesday night suppers are available weekly for all families. A freewill donation is encouraged to cover meal costs.

Registration for all choirs will be available online in mid-August and at Zion on Homecoming Sunday, September 11.

Homecoming Sunday

Homecoming SundayMark your calendar for Zion’s Homecoming Sunday on September 11, and come home to Zion for the 1000th time or the 1st time

Choose the worship service that fits you:
  • Traditional worship led by the Senior Choir at 8:30am.
  • Family Express at 9:40am in Trinity Hall.
  • Contemporary worship led by Jubilee at 10:30am.
Stop by the Ministry Fair before or after worship … the Ministry Fair is like a volunteer expo, an opportunity to see where you can enrich Zion’s ministry.  Refreshments will also be served.
There will be a Sunday School parent meeting (and registration if needed) in the Sanctuary between the 8:30 and 10:30 services.
A picnic lunch will be served inside after the third service (around 11:45am), including County Fair Sweet Corn. Eat inside, or bring a blanket and eat outside.

The annual Homecoming Sunday Carnival is fun for the whole family  with inflatable jumpies, face painting, crazy hair, temporary tattoos, games, cotton candy, and more. It all happens on the front lawn from 11:45am until … well … until it ends :)
